The center point of this POI is a boss fight protected by patrolling guards. Rewarding players with high tier loot and making sure no other third party could interrupt the boss fight was crucial to making it feel like a true one (or four) on one with the boss.
Creating a level with a multiplayer shooter in mind, one of the biggest concerns for me was lines of sight. With a large open vertical style layout this posed a slight challenge but I leveraged the theme of a low gravity zone with floating rocks to my advantage.
Blocked off lines of sights utilizing moving rocks, destroyed buildings, and other rubble assisted players during playtests.
Another big consideration were points of entry into interior looting areas. Making sure interior areas have blocked lines of sights in some areas to protect unarmed players was an important consideration.
The long hallways leave the player vulnerable to being shot without any cover. The various nooks breakup the lines of sight and provide cover to players.
Consistent interior lighting was essential in allowing players to clearly identify players, chests, and other items in the environment.
